As 2020 comes to a close, the Build KCI team was excited to install the steel beam from the recent Sign the Beam campaign. The beam is nearly 30 feet long and was one of the last to be installed in the New Terminal. It’s covered in the names of individuals, families, and businesses who contributed more than $90,000 to the United Way’s ongoing COVID-19 recovery efforts. It will eventually be covered by drywall, and not visible to the traveling public, though there will be commemorative marker installed in the public space. Many thanks to all who supported the campaign! The Labor Beacon made a donation on behalf of all union members who contributed to this historical project.

As the campaign came to a close on Friday, December 11, $90,085 had been raised in the community for pandemic relief.

United Way of Greater Kansas City will use the funds to support COVID-19 assistance in these key areas:

Childcare
Healthcare Access
Rent/Mortgage Assistance
Utility Payment Assistance
Case Management

“We are incredibly grateful to the Edgemoor Team and Kansas Citians who provided contributions toward COVID-19 relief in our community,” said Brent Stewart, President & CEO of United Way of Greater Kansas City. “The pandemic has significantly impacted so many of our friends and neighbors. There is a tremendous need. We encourage the community to continue these generous acts of kindness to provide resources to those who are facing a really tough holiday season ahead.”
