On Saturday, August 22nd, over 200 cars and motorcycles gathered at the Azura Amphitheater for the Second Annual KC Labor Car and Bike Show. The first occurred in 2019, with a disruption last year due to the effects of the COVID pandemic. The first event resulted in over $10,000 raised for charity and 120 cars and motorcycles registered into the show. The event has quickly become one of the most successful shows of its type benefiting local charity. The KC Labor Car and Bike Show features American-made vehicles. The website boasts that the event displays “the latest automotive trends and some of the most impressive blasts from the past, The KC Labor Car and Bike Show showcases an incredible collection of cutting-edge design and extraordinary historical innovation.” Many retired and current members entered vehicles into the event, with vehicles ranging wildly in type, year, make, and model.

The event has quickly become popular, a difficult feat without a track record of success already. The event boasts more than 25 sponsors at various levels. Pat “Duke” Dujakovich, President of the Greater KC AFL-CIO, is the primary organizer behind this event and his passion for the success of the event showed. “The 2021 Labor Car and Bike show was a huge success and we are excited to see it continue to grow,” said Duke Dujakovich. “Our goal for 2022 is 250 cars and Alise and I are going to start working on it next week.”

Throughout the day, music played from a local DJ and prizes were raffled off. Prizes included everything from hats to more car-specific items, such as seat covers. The event, which ran from 9:00 AM to close to 1:30 PM, was free to the public and featured several food trucks as well as a snow-cone truck. Competitors showed up as early as 8:00 AM to set up and get into position. Boyd, Kenter, Thomas, & Parrish LLC sponsored the first two hundred entrants to the event with free entry. Forty entrants won “best in show plaques”, customized to include their name, and an additional nine car-owners won trophies handed out by the sponsors and event runners.
