Ironworkers Local 10 Win Top Two Places At District Council Competition

The 2021 St. Louis District Council and Vicinity Apprentice Competition was held from Wednesday, August 25th to Thursday, August 26th. The event was hosted at Kansas City’s impressive Builders Association Training Center in North Kansas City, MO where the Ironworkers hold their apprentice training program. The venue was a source of envy for many of the Locals, a reminder of how fortunate Local 10 is to have such a great space to work with. Ironworkers Local 10 has dominated the competition in recent years, consistently finishing in the top positions at the competition for several years running.

The District event rotates between the Locals within the Ironworkers District Council of St. Louis and Vicinity whenever possible. The Iron Workers District Council of St. Louis and Vicinity has nine Locals in Illinois, Indiana, Arkansas, Kentucky, and Missouri, each of which had the option to send two members, COVID did prevent some Locals from sending members to the competition. The individual competitions are the written test, layout instruments, welding, burning, knot tying, rod tying, ornamental and the column climb. The winners of the competition are given the opportunity to go to the International competition held every other year, next year Local 24 of Denver, Colorado will be hosting the event. Local 24 planned to host in 2020, but that event was unfortunately cancelled due to the ongoing pandemic.
